BMW i-Series: Environmentally Conscious in Every Way

BMW Constructs the i-Series with the Environment in Mind

Many companies preach being environmentally conscious and brag about their green products but fail to mention how they are constructed. BMW has decided to take a different route. They are building environmentally-friendly sports cars in one of the most modern factories in the world.

Where the BMW i-Series Is Built

The BMW i-Series is assembled in Leipzig, Germany, pretty far from Mechanicsburg, at one of the most eco-friendly factories ever made. The entire facility runs on 100% renewable energy that is harnessed through a series of wind turbines and locally-sourced hydropower. From beginning to end, a BMW i3 made at this facility uses 70% less water and 50% less energy.

Eco-Friendly Materials Used in the Construction of the i-Series

Utilizing sustainable resources is essential. The BMW i-Series crafts its dashboard and trim with sustainably grown open-pore eucalyptus. The leather inside of the BMW i3 or BMW i8 is protected with olive leaf extract. Olive production byproducts protect against fading and wear, and is sourced through a natural process. ,/p>

Kenaf plants are a form of hemp. They are used to reinforce the dashboard and door trims of your BMW. Fibers are sourced naturally and grown sustainably. While many cars were once constructed with steel, BMW has found a better alternative. BMW uses Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics. Not only are they eco-friendly but they are fuel efficient. They are as strong as steel but weigh about half as much. This allows you to get more power from your engine and test the limits of your BMW on Lancaster roads.
